Hey, apparently there’s a cure for GRID HIV now!
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that a brilliant doctor from Germany performed a bone marrow transplant on an HIV patient using marrow from a naturally immune donor. Since white blood cells are derived from bone marrow, the HIV-resistent bone marrow produced HIV-resistent WBCs with the CCR5 mutation that prevents HIV from binding to white blood cells, and all traces of the virus disappeared from the patient’s bloodstream. Since the transplant, doctors have not detected any signs of the virus for 600 days. He’s completely off antiretrovirals, and doesn’t appear to be at risk for any recurrence. Pretty cool, right? The illustration in the article reminds me of a science class I took my senior year of high school where we basically drew pictures of HIV for ten months. It was fucking boring, but I guess it’s cool that I understand articles like this one now.
To celebrate, why don’t we all go outside and fuck in the streets? I’ll provide the proper musical score for the fuckfest, or what I like to call “another Sunday mix tape.”
RULES for uninitiated noobs: With roughly 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. As always, these songs will be removed if desired by the band or those who represent them. Let me know and I will gladly comply. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums.
