Dead Meadow – Peel Session

Since all the Dead Meadow records (and by that I mean the CDs) are still in-print, I’m left to share live recordings if I want to spread the word about the band. I don’t remember when exactly I first discovered them, but I’m sure Ian was involved, as he has introduced me to a large number of the bands through the years. I first saw them a few years ago in Brooklyn, at Southpaw. Ian got too drunk and sat on the floor holding his head throughout the band’s set, then puked on the sidewalk while my friend Anthony and I got some late-night junk food from a nearby mini-mart. Ha! Ian can’t hold his booze!

When I originally found this recording, it was labeled as a WFMU in-studio session, but then I posted a track as part of a mix tape and someone related to the band started e-mailing me asking for the complete recording. They also wanted to know if there was a date attached to it, so I scoured the Internet (which normally I won’t do just to find the date of a live recording), and it turned out I was in possession not of any WFMU session, but a Peel Session. Session. That word just stopped making sense to me. I don’t want to type it again, it looks like a typo now.

Anyway, please enjoy the live Dead Meadow. They’ve been a consistently great band throughout their career (except for this most recent record, which is a total snooze-fest!), and they’ve managed to keep my interest even though they’re a Matador Records band.
