What a long fucking day. All I wanted to do was stay in bed, but I had to go to work. Then I had to stay until closing even though it wasn’t scheduled. I went out with the boys for a couple beers and a couple shots last night, and went home shortly after midnight because I had to be awake and able-bodied for work. When I got home at 7:30 this evening, I learned that they were still drinking. An incredible marathon of booze that surprised even me. I can’t imagine how dead everyone is going to be when they arrive home. Oh well, at least having some time to myself enables me to craft a weird Sunday Mix Tape for you wonderful readers. By the way, have I mentioned that I make more money when you click on those little advertisements that are now gracing this blog? If you love me but don’t want to give me your money, just click on the ads and it’ll be just like giving me somebody else’s money! Everyone wins! I’ll have money to buy rare records, and you’ll get to hear them on this page! Get it!? Good!
RULES for uninitiated noobs: With roughly 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. This week is, like, 60s/70s psychedelic rock overload. Sum Pear! Mighty Baby! Incredible String Band! Pretty Things! I’ve even gone and juxtaposed it to more modern sounds, some ambient (Aidan Baker & Tim Hecker, Windy & Carl) and a track from the new Conifer album, which is rapidly ascending my “Best of 2008” list. Of course, what would a Sunday Mix Tape be without a surprise Oasis b-side, an alternate version of “Slide Away” from the “Whatever” single. As always, these songs will be removed if desired by the band or those who represent them. Let me know and I will gladly comply. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums.
