I didn’t do anything today, and I loved it. Actually, I didn’t love it, because I woke up with one of the all-time worst hangovers I’ve ever experienced. Last night I was treated to the company of Jack, Ken and Katie. We decided — after little deliberation — to play a drinking game. You see, The Simpsons Movie was on television, and someone (I think it was Katie) decided on a simple set of rules. We had shot glasses and a spinner set up in front of us. Rule number one: whenever a main character (Bart, Homer, Lisa, Maggie, Marge) was referred to by name, the wheel was spun and someone was forced to drink. Rule number two: upon any utterance of “d’oh” or a similar sounding Homer-ism, everybody drink. Our booze of choice? The foulest bottle of Dewars I have ever tasted in my entire life. The sticker on the label had a purchase date of 1968 on it. OH baby, was that Dewars ripe!
Unfortunately for us, the wacky Simpsons family sure loves to call each other by their names, as opposed to “dad”, “son”, “mom” or “sister.” Within the first twenty minutes of the movie, the person who’d drank the least had about five shots under their belt. You can imagine our collective dismay when I paused the movie and saw we still had over an hour left to play. All I’m going to say is, I don’t remember Ken and Katie ever leaving my house, and I don’t remember ever getting into bed, but somehow I awoke there this morning, still feeling drunk and gross as hell.
Oh yeah, and there’s about an hour of video footage from the evening which should be available shortly. I laughed like a bastard watching it all this evening. The The Departed came on HBO and I’ve been watching it for the past few hours. It’s quite an amazing film, I think…
Tomorrow I’m going to Allentown to see the old stomping ground and have a nice Wegmans lunch amongst old friends. It should be a relatively calm day. Now here’s your Sunday Mix Tape, one day late. Oh, and by the way, today was extremely close to being the first time this page has received 1,000 unique visitors, which is a feat I have been anticipating for a long time. But “close” is not the same as actually achieving the goal, so I guess we’ll all have to wait a while for me to feel like I’ve accomplished something.
RULES for uninitiated noobs: With roughly 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. This week, since I’m back in New Jersey, I’ve chosen some songs from my old PC’s hard drive to create the mix tape. Some stuff you’ll probably recognize if you were downloading my earliest mixes, others might be a bit more familiar. As always, these songs will be removed if desired by the band or those who represent them. Let me know and I will gladly comply. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums.
