This week, loyal Swan Fungus reader Stephen from Japan has curated a mix tape for the rest of you. Not only that, he and his friend John apparently started a Facebook group for Swan Fungus readers! And there are already fifteen members! What the hell is this world coming to? I think you should all do the world a favor and join the group. Maybe the discussion board can become more entertaining than this page, and I won’t have to work anymore! I don’t know exactly how one links to a Facebook group, but I’m going to try this. Click Here to Join the Swan Fungus readers Facebook group.
And now, the mix tape.
RULES for uninitiated noobs: With 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. This week’s theme is laid out below by its curator. And, honestly, I think he should start his own music blog. You all could learn a thing from him. I wish all Swan Fungus readers had impeccable taste like Stephen does. As always, these songs will be removed if desired by the band or those who represent them. Let me know and I will gladly comply. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums.

Hot And Sticky

“Part 1 (tracks 1-16) is mostly domestic — that’s to say, American — booze-soaked summer and/or sexual heat, with some brain-fevered revival-tent nuttiness thrown in. You’l find that it includes one song about a druggie getting his face all hot & sticky in a greasy spoon followed by a song about hot & sticky druggie cockroaches wanting to stuff their faces — see, that’s me demonstrating subtle humor. Part 2 (tracks 17-32) is mostly hot & sticky stuff from elsewhere, though you could justifiably subtitle it “Stephen just CANNOT get ENOUGH Japanese FREAKPOP.” You’ll notice that the gleeful lolita/punk bounciness of the mighty Tsushimamire appears twice. That’s because I exercised tremendous restraint and refrained from including a whole lot more.”
