“Volcano Suns was an American alternative rock band from Boston, Massachusetts. Their music is often compared to the works of bands like Hüsker Dü and Mudhoney. They were founded in 1983 by former Mission of Burma drummer and Moll’s roadie Peter Prescott, the only founding member of the band to remain until their break-up in 1991. Original members include the aforementioned Peter Prescott as drummer and vocalist, and Gary Waleik and Steve Michener who would leave before the release of the first Sun’s album to form Big Dipper. Prescott then added Jeff Weigand on bass guitar and Jon Williams on guitar. This second line-up appeared, and actually created, their debut The Bright Orange Years as well as its follow up, All Night Lotus Party, both released on the now-defunct Homestead Records. In 1987, Bob Weston replaced Weigand on bass guitar.and Chuck Hahn replaced Williams on guitar for Bumper Crop , the band’s final release on Homestead. Other contributions included Roger Miller on piano and Gary Waleik on sitar.” – Wikipedia
“[The] first side’s got everything an insatiable Mission of Burma (or Hüsker Dü) fan could ask except Richard Harte’s production, which might do justice to the band’s command of detail. In fact, it makes me wish MOB had let drummer-vocalist Peter Prescott, who does most of the songwriting here, do most of the songwriting there as well. Second side’s more clamorous, which these days is just another way of saying conventional.” – Robert Christgau
