Awoke this morning with a mission — a plan, if you will — which included taking my sister for her final meal in Los Angeles (In-N-Out), dropping her off at the airport, picking up my paycheck from work, depositing it at my bank (while getting some cash back, for food or whatever), and visiting the mechanic so I could have my new tires aligned. Things started out well enough, her bag was packed and she was actually ready to leave just as I was waking up. I think I expected to walk into my bedroom (where she’d been staying) only to find the place was a complete mess, with clothes strewn everywhere and furniture upturned and maybe an unidentifiable stain (food, makeup, et. al) thrown in for good measure. I showered, dressed, and we — along with Nicci — headed out for the day.
The drive to the airport was quiet. The line of cars at the In-N-Out on Sepulveda (down the street from LAX) was wrapped around the block. We found a spot and walked inside. While I waited for our order, the girls got a table and talked about shoes or handbags or boys or whatever it is girls talk about when they’re together. The food was, obviously, really good. She repeatedly said that she enjoyed it whenever she wasn’t too busy typing rapid-fire text messages into her phone. Unfortunately for her, she then found out that her flight was delayed until after 5pm, and since Nicci had to be at work by 2pm, we had to drop her at the airport more than four hours before her flight. I’m sure her phone kept her good company during the long pre-flight wait.
Got home, started Photoshopping more pictures from the past five days, and then decided to start my errands. As I sat in an immense line of traffic on Glendale, I called the mechanic. He said tomorrow morning would be the best time to bring my car in, so I crossed that off my list of things to do. I soon found out Glendale was closed for several blocks, so I had to take an excruciatingly long route to the store. I got there after almost an hour. Then I hit traffic again near the bank, and twice more on the way home. Traffic signals all over town were without power, leading to annoying jams at nearly every intersection for several miles in each direction. I think there was a fire involved. Who knows…
I spent the rest of my day Photoshopping more pictures. You’re looking at some of them now. I’m working all weekend. Expect more late-night updates filled with dumb stories and little insight.
