SUNDAY MIX TAPE – VOLUME 81

I guess today is another one of those two-update days. Aren’t you readers lucky? Both music related! I guess I’m finally living up to my billing as a music blogger? The thought of it might be sickening, sure, but the reality is that I try to spend as little time writing about music as a music nerd possibly can. I don’t want to bore anyone. With that in mind, here’s another music related entry. A mix tape!

RULES for uninitiated noobs: With 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. I devoted about an hour of my day to compiling a mix for Brian, because his birthday is tomorrow. It’s the best I can do considering I don’t have any income. We were talking over dinner the other night about his time working as a DJ at his college’s radio station, and the rules that were forced upon him. These included mandatory airplay for three Texas bands every hour. We started naming Texas bands, and it got me thinking. The mix I made for him is 20 Texas bands and musicians I figured he hadn’t heard of (including Early Lines, Charalambides, Scratch Acid, Blind Willie Johnson, Monroe Mustang, The Weird Weeds, The Red Krayola, etc.). Then I figured I’d devote tonight’s mix to highlighting other Texas acts. Of the 20 tunes, I think about seven are artists from Texas. These songs will be removed if desired by the band or those who represent them. Let me know and I will gladly comply. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums. And really, there is no reason not to. Most of these can be purchased for anywhere between fifty cents and two dollars. Unless of course, you’re afraid somebody might find it in your collection.
