SUNDAY MIX TAPE – VOLUME 63

As I write this, I’m watching Mike Lowell hit his second home run against the Yankees in a hotly contested battle up in Boston. I had a good weekend, thanks for asking. There was socializing, drinking, seeing an old friend, and more. Oh yeah, and Obscure References is trying to put together a national tour. Well, I mean, we’ve done calculations. So far we contemplated an entire tour (or, as I called it, a “heist”) where we pretend our gear was stolen every night (thus cutting down on our costs because we could drive our cars, and not have to rent a van). We’ve had some pretty ingenious ideas.

There is an infestation of hornets and carpenter bees in the general vicinity of my bedroom. Because of that, I am constantly looking over my shoulder for potential attackers. Thankfully this will not last much longer. For those of you who are unaware, this will be my last Sunday Mix Tape as a resident on America’s East Coast. I’m moving out west at the end of this week. I’m not sure for how long, it could just be four months, or it could be forever. Nevertheless, your well-wishes would be most appreciated. Stay tuned, as I’ll be keeping you informed of my travels right here. Perhaps the laid-back California life will find me a kinder, gentler Evan. Or not.

RULES for uninitiated noobs: With 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. This week offers you a wide variety of styles and flavors. We start with some post-rock goodness (from Mono’s “Travels In Constants” effort and the new Growing LP), slip in some jazz (Miles, Philip, Sonny, Eric), some Bedhead and Ida (for the mopey dudes), some ambiance (Jasper TX, Sunroof!), songwriters (Mikami and Niles), and even a pinch of Love. These songs will be removed if desired by the band or those who represent them. Let me know and I will gladly comply. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums.
