Filthy, Nostalgic and A Broken Auto

Hands bloodied. Finger nails grimy. Hair speckled with dust and dirt. This is my appearance upon returning home today. The process of closing the business grew messier today with such arduous tasks as consolidation, heavy-lifting, errands, fire sales and repeated visits to the dumpster. On the plus side, I made twenty bucks by helping a former customer procure some items and packing them into his car. For someone who received a 38 (thirty eight!) percent on my Geometry final exam in high school, I managed to fit two over-sized fake grass carpets into a Lexus all on my own today! Also, I backed up data, tore down computers, disconnected networks, put some items for sale on eBay (and, seriously, who couldn’t use two credit card machines?), walked the property, and continued to reminisce with whomever came to visit. More shoddy camera phone pictures were snapped.

Standing In Mud, Looking Over My shoulder

The first bulldozers showed up to plow over the neighboring lot, which previously contained storage sheds and a makeshift parking lot where people could rent space for their trucks or machinery. There are poles for surveyors set up in the ground and various markings I don’t understand. Over the next few days they will continue to encroach, until the day they plow right through the walls.

I think tomorrow I’m going to get in touch with the Star Ledger about writing an article or editorial to coincide with the razing of the building.

Stockpiles of documents, lawnmowers, and garbage

Also, I took my ailing car to my mechanic and he informed me that the front axle is broken (like in a game of Oregon Trail), temporarily grounding me and potentially delaying my plans for an important forthcoming road trip. They think they might have to rebuild it, and the process of taking it apart, inspecting it, and putting it back together/building a new one could take several days. Oh, and I woke up sick this morning for the first time in a really long time. That too, sucks.
