Mildly upsetting news, everyone! I’ve returned home to Jersey from my weekend venture into New England. Sure, the traffic on I-87 was draining, but not quite as draining as looking forward to a long week of work and crap I’ve put off far too long.
These recent days spent visiting old haunts provided me with plenty of time for internal reflection, so I figured this week’s Sunday Mix Tape (#36) would be perfect opportunity to take a trip down memory lane [for me]. If you’re new to this “Mix Tape” routine, here are the rules: I’ve got 100MB of webspace and every week I manifest a new compilation for yer iPod’s and your kingklangs or whatever you kids use to listen to music these days. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together. This week we travel back to the mystical far-off 2001-02 school year to enjoy songs that freshman Evan was listening to while he drastically lost weight from eating only dry cereal and Pepsi, tried to carry on a serious committed relationship with a mousy Jewish girl, and turned a general interest in “indie” music like Pavement and Built to Spill into a full-out obsession. Hey! That was the year I discovered Spiderland (thank you, Internet)! And the year I had a lot of sex [okay, twice] while listening to Godspeed You Black Emperor! And Ian got to see Explosions in the Sky open for …Trail of Dead (while they were still good) and I didn’t! And Ilya played that Neutral Milk Hotel cassette for me! These songs will be removed if desired by the band or those who represent them. Let me know and I will gladly comply. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll buy their albums.
