Screeching Tires Fan Campfires

Ah, the perfect summer sunset. After an overcast Wednesday evening, Thursday turned out to be much nicer. Of course, it was slightly hindered by the free concert on the other side of the art park, where New Jersey’s metal/indie youth were posturing for a crowd of maybe forty (plus some cute young girls…very young girls). From “screamo” to “post-hardcore” to “metal-lite,” they sure did put their little hearts into their performances. For each successive band, I would say, “They’ll sound better when they discover pot and slow everything down.” Afterwards, Ken, Ilya, Adam and I lost our heads and picked up instruments. I don’t remember much of it, but it was polyrhythmic, soft and nice. Like a fruit smoothie on a sweltering summer night.
