Firstly, a nice “thank you” to the kid from this website for complimenting me. He says, “the design [is] getting better and easier to read,” whatever that means. I questioned him as to whether the “easier to read” part inferred that my writing sucks, but he was nice enough to clarify his remark and mentioned something about British people and their nomenclature…
Secondly, the bachelor party last night was a good time. The food was solid and the drinks were decent. A selection of 90 different styles of tequila didn’t hurt either.
I had a nice day today. I drove into the city early to meet Andi and her boyfriend Chris. We hung out for a while in the Canal Street area because it was the only region that Andi hadn’t seen during her stay in Manhattan. She needed to find cheap gifts for family and decided that’s where she wanted to go. Sure, I had to walk about thirty blocks to get there, but I needed the exercise. We had lunch at a really nice Italian joint in Little Italy where we were served free red wine by the owner Willie. The rigatoni alla bolognese was good. I’d give the restaurant a plug but I forgot the name. Sorry, Willie, an audience the size of mine could’ve netted you about one whole customer!
Following lunch, we three walked our way back up through SoHo. Chris wanted to look around some stores, and shortly afterwards they left to catch their flight back to Florida. Since I was already in SoHo, I decided to stop by and surprise my friend Jessica at her place of business. She was a bit shocked to see me, which is a good thing? (I think?) She was helping two customers, and when she offered me some of the herbal tea Elixir that her company just introduced. I gagged on it very audibly and the customers left the store. Oops.
We hung out for a long while, catching up, looking through the computer system to find all the famous people’s addresses who come through her store and their purchase history. Pamela Anderson has spent something like nineteen thousand dollars there. A model came in but I couldn’t remember her name. She was tall and blonde and British. Naturally, she paid next-to-no attention to me. Jessica tried to cheer me up by putting a bunch of organic crap on my face to “bring out my natural glow,” as she put it. It smelled bad and my face turned an unnatural shade of red/brown. It was eerily reminiscent of the time three years ago she made her friend Ingrid give me a free facial to bring in potential male shoppers walking down West Broadway…
Look how young I was then!
Look how embarrassed that girl is being photographed with me!
I left Jessica and stopped by Rocks In Your Head but I didn’t buy anything. I had a nice conversation with the girl behind the counter about Spacemen 3 (a new book about them just came out) to Psychic Ills, Serena Maneesh, MBV, the Jesus and Mary Chain… a lot of band names were dropped. She recommended some albums I should check out, I thanked her and left the store. All in all I only spent $16 today and it was all on food! Now I only have $11 to get me through the week until my next paycheck!
Here’s a new Sunday Mix. If you don’t remember the rules, they’re very simple. I’ve got 100MB of webspace and every week I’ll make a new mix for yer iPod’s and your kingklangs or whatever you kids use to listen to music these days. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together. This week’s theme (although no 100% true) features songs that were recorded by bands whose names begin with the letter “G”. Except for Turing Machine, that album Zwei is really excellent. I don’t know, it’s like an old Sesame Street episode or something. These songs will be removed if desired by the band or those who represent them. Let me know and I will gladly comply. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll buy their albums.
**MP3’S WERE REMOVED ON 3/26/06. **
