Film Review: Martin And Orloff

Hey, you’ve got money, right? That’s the stuff they give you when you have a job, right? Good! Now you can buy my stuff. Overpay for it too, why dontcha!

Last night Lauren G. came over and we watched Martin and Orloff which features the cast of Upright Citizen’s Brigade. It was pretty funny. Like Wet Hot American Summer was for the Stella/The State folks. The pace was a little too slow for me, and the ending seemed like they didn’t really know what the hell to do with the plot, but sometimes the slowness and lack of direction worked really well. We laughed a bunch. Then we put on Arachnaphobia, which was slightly less interesting than the other movie, but then again I’ve seen it enough times to recall obscure quotes from memory. Humdingers like John Goodman’s, “Tear out old wood, put in good wood.” I have a penchant for reciting totally non-integral quotes, that remain for some reason stuck in my memory bank.

Every time I put a movie or TV show on mute and speak the dialogue from memory, I wonder if maybe that completely useless information has replaced another, more important factoid that I learned as a child. Like how to multiply fractions, the path of blood through the human body via the circulatory system, or what Galanty’s phone number is…
