Steve got up and left for work early. I was awake at 8:00am. How strange it feels when you know that this is the final day. “The end,” is not a foreign concept looming somewhere in the future. It has become the present. Where life goes from here is beyond me. There are no more schedules, no more travels or meetings to keep me busy in the foreseeable future. Sure, I still have interviews left to do around the New York/Rhode Island/Montreal areas, but there is no timetable for when they will occur. Hopefully soon. I’m going to crash from lack of stimulation in a matter of days.
Lisa Marie, Ethan and I hung out until Steve got home. We took some photographs of me playing with Ethan and then had a nice big lunch before I hit the road. Chicken, potatoes, stuffing… It was like the last supper, only lunch, and I wasn’t capture by the Romans a few hours later. I didn’t even die! Pretty cool, huh?

I got in the car at about 1:30 and started to drive. So many things passed through my head, all of which were dictated into the cassette recorder. I’ll transcribe it tomorrow. The drive home took about 7.5 hours, I made very good time considering the numerous stops I made for gas and food and drinks. Pennsylvania was quite boring. When I saw the big WELCOME sign I flipped it off. When I saw the sign for New Jersey I was slightly anxious. The sky darkened quick. On Route-280 into Livingston, the moon hung huge and full in the sky.
All things come to a halt the moment I pull into my mother’s driveway. I came inside and gave her a hug and a kiss. She made me brownies and we talked for a while. I gave her some presents and showed her tokens from the road. We examined the credit card bills. When she went to sleep I caught up on episodes of Six Feet Under. At 4am I fell asleep. This is home. This is an ending. Final thoughts tomorrow.
