THE TRIP: DAY 20

…And then the rain came to wash everything clean.

Day 20 of this sojourn commenced with Matt and I going for breakfast. We went to Joel’s Bistro. It was better than The Garland and Millie’s Pancake Haus, food-wise and service-wise. Finally, happiness.

Liz called to say she was at McDonald’s with Emily and that they would be home in thirty minutes. Will was going to be at work until after 6:00. I drove to their house in the foothills. I guess that’s what the area is called. The drive basically was toward Mt. Lemmon, but you turn off a few miles before the initial climb.

Upon my arrival, Emily was just waking up from a nap. She was confused and very shy around the new stranger in her home. I went a swim with the dog, Floyd. He would jump in the pool to fetch a toy, and then upon exiting, make his way to the far wall and rub himself across the stone to dry off. He looked like Antonio Banderas in Desperado when he’s left bloodied to slink along, leaving a blood trail in his wake.

After an hour, I went inside to find Liz and Emily watching Sesame Street. We talked for a while until Will arrived home from work. We ate and talked a lot about the trip, his work and shared stories. After dinner we put in a movie and hung around the house.

The rain started and did not cease for a long time. There were no stars out tonight.

Tomorrow, Mt. Lemmon and the drive to San Diego.
